The New Frontier Reading List is centered around the series of novels following the adventures of the USS Excalibur in the former Thallonian Empire. Multiple entries below take place prior to the original publication order starting point. Accordingly, there are are two good "jumping on points" below.
Besides the main novel line, several other novels, comics, young adult novels, and short stories feature the New Frontier crew.
Reading New Frontier in chronological order leads to a few difficulties that no other Lit-verse series does. A decades-spanning anthology published midway through the series presents stories which assume familiarity with the basic New Frontier storyline and characters. Reading many of the short stories would be confusing without knowledge of at least some of the backstory presented in flashbacks in early novels. So only in the case of New Frontier, I have listed a few of these flashbacks as separate entries. Reading these as listed should provide the necessary backstory for the relevant short stories. Many other flashbacks are not listed separately, and so would be read later even when doing this basic chronological read through.
Also, some of the entries here are likewise listed on the Early 24th Century Reading List. This is another unique situation, as I haven't listed any of the other entries on the Early 24th Century Reading List in any other series reading list.
Dark blue denotes the primary novel narrative. Read these for the bare bones story. Light blue denotes the expanded storyline. Read any or all of these to go a bit deeper. The white denotes cameos of New Frontier characters in other Lit-verse novels.
