This chronology was alot of fun to figure out. It will be very useful for
keeping things consistent in any future timelines I work on. This project resulted in me meeting many great people with similar interests in Star Trek chronology, and eventually led to me becoming an official Star Trek Timeliner.
For the first version of this timeline, I have to
thank everyone over at the Trek BBS who contributed an immense amount of
help in getting this all figured out. Especially TrekBBS user Idranwho
helped me understand all the data points in the Vanguard series. Here's
the thread in which we built that first version of this and ironed out a lot of
difficulties. A Lit-verse Based TOS Chronology.
Below is my revamped second version. This built on a lot of info
shared between many of the same people I worked with on the TrekBBS on
the first version, but this time privately as fellow Star Trek
Timeliners. I want to give a huge thanks to all of them for giving me
the ok to include several points of information that I gleaned from our
private discussions. There are a few places noted below where
information comes lifted directly from the Star Trek Timeliners'
documents. Also most of the instances where the span of days or weeks that a given story takes place over was information donated by the Star Trek Timeliners. Thanks so much to all the members of that group over the
years!
In particular I have to give credit and thanks to Jason
Barney for coming up with the idea of "stardate resets", which I have
called "stardate rollbacks" here. I think there is a great deal more to mine
with that idea. If anyone else needs thanked individually, it's TrekBBS
users Jinn and Leto_II. They are superstars in the Star Trek
chronology world. I'm glad to have had so many great interactions with
them over the years.
A note to everyone out there. The amount of
detail and information in the timeline below is absolutely dwarfed by
the work on display in the Star Trek Timeliners' documents. Evidence of
that can be seen in the last published version of our group's work in
the back of Voyages of Imagination. That was almost 15 years ago. There is an incredibly larger
amount of information in that project today, waiting for an outlet to
make its way into print again. If you are as interested as I am to see
the Star Trek Timeliners' Timeline published again, make the word known
to Simon and Schuster, our wonderful Star Trek novelists, or anyone worthwhile who
will listen. Create a demand for this awesome project. Rest assured
that it will be well worth the 15 year wait.
I publish this Five
Year Mission timeline only because there is so much given to
interpretation in this era of Trek history. This small snippet of
chronology, as my own personal interpretation, including only the novels
connected to the Lit-verse in some way, can in no way negate the need
for the entire Star Trek Timeliners' Timeline to be published again. I
certainly hope it will be someday soon.
